Ekambaranathar temple is located in kanchipuram in the state of Tamil Nadu. The main deity of this temple is lord Shiva. This temple is one among the Pancha bootha temples and symbolizes earth form. This temple is also one among the Padal petra sthalams. Lord Shiva is known here as Ekambaranathar in this temple. This temple has a unique 3500 year old mango tree which can yield four different types of mango from its four branches. Once lord Parvathi was doing penance under the ancient mango tree. Lord Shiva set fire on Parvathi to test her devotion, goddess parvati prayed to her brother Vishnu for help. In order to save her, Lord Vishnu took the moon from Lord Shiva’s head and showed the rays towards Parvati and ancient tree to cool them from the fire. Later lord Shiva again sent the river Ganga to disrupt Parvathi’s penance. Lord Parvathi then prayed to Ganga and convinced her that both are sisters and asked her not to harm her. So river Ganga didn’t disturb her penance again. Lord Parvathi made Shiva Lingam out of sand to get united with lord Shiva, Later he was known as Ekambaranathar.
