Srirangam Temple



Sri Ranganathaswamy temple is located in Srirangam, Tiruchirapalli district in the state of Tamil Nadu. The temple is famously known as Periya kovil or Booloka Vaikuntam and it is one of the 108 divyadesam. The main deity of this temple is Lord Vishnu. The temple is joined by two rivers called Cauvery and coleroon. In this temple Lord Ranganathar will be in a sleeping position and a Naga will be over his head. The specialty of this temple is it has 12 kalasam, 21 towers and a rajagopuram and a Hall which has 1000 pillars which is very famous for this temple. There are 7 different shrines kept for different gods. The temple is shaped with Om and it is plated with gold. The main festival celebrated in this temple is utsavam, vaikunda ekadeshi, Brahmotsavam in the Tamil calendar month of paguni, Nagarasothanai which is celebrated for 11 days, Vasanthotsavam and Rathotsavam where the main deity will be taken around the temple in a chariot. The Aanathanam is provided to the people and special poojas are performed by the priest and devotees who visit this temple will get the blessings of Lord Vishnu to get prosperity. Puliyodharai is very famous in this temple.
