Suriyanar Temple


Suriyanar temple is located in east of Kumbakonam(mayiladuthurai road) in the state of Tamil Nadu. This temple comes under Thiruvidaimarudur talulk and falls under Tanjore district. Suriyanar temple is one among the Navagraha temples in Kumbakonam. Suriyanar temple represents sun.  Navagraha is known to render good and bad effects on the human life based on their deeds. Navagraha make sure that one cannot escape from the fate written but from worshiping the god one can reduce the evil effects to a great extent. As said by ancestors, people who come to worship in suriyanar temple should visit Thirumangalakudi temple too as both the places where same and called as ‘Argavamam’. People who come here for worship should take bath or sprinkle holy water on their head from pushkarani as a form of purification. Then the devotee should offer prayers to raja gopuram before entering the temple. After entering the temple you can find lord Vinayagar in southern side, devotees can do archana to him as he has the power to turnover all obstacles in one’s life. In Maha sannathi you can Suriyan god and Guru Bhavan facing each other in the same sannathi. Only in this temple you can find all other navagraha gods in this same temple. After praying to all navagraha gods one should move clockwise to reach Lord Vinayagar to give final prayers and then you should prostrate before flag post (kodimaram). Then you should round nine times around the temple and meditate by chanting “Om Namaha Shivaya”. While coming out you can offer food to poor people (annadhanam).
